older mac OS issue in automating .ppt and .key files

March 27, 2019
We are running Mac OS 10.10.5 on an iMac 20" (early 2008). I can probably update to Mac OS 10.11 but I don't think our machine can run anything newer than that. I'm trying to run both PowerPoint and Keynote presentations (using Keynote as the default to generate thumbnails) but can't find the "automation" function under "system settings" "security and privacy" and "privacy tab" based on your instructions. I'm guessing this is a function of the OS we are running. Suggestions?

Hi Ann- Are you seeing an error when you attempt to import a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation into your media library?

Yes, I get the verify powerpoint message. Funny thing is if I import from our Window machine and the run on the Mac things seem to work.

Also unrelated problem I was able to import one .png (size 1.5mb) file but not another (size 967kb).

If you are seeing a message that is saying "verify powerpoint is installed", make sure you have Keynote selected in the settings for Thumbnail Generation.

I have Keynote selected in the setting for Thumbnail Generation. When I try to import a file into the media section Keynote now opens and I can see the presentation. However I can not see the presentation in my media list or add it to the cue. So I end up with WE open and Keynote open but to get the presentation to our screens I have to run it from Keynote. I don't see how to run it through WE.

Thanks, please verify you have version 4.33.2 and try the import again. I'll check the logs after you attempt an import again.

I had 4.33.0, so I have updated to 4.33.2 and tried importing. This time an error message flashed in the bottom right corner of the WE screen, but I couldn't read it because it was behind my Keynote window.

Thank you, I saw the error come back. It looks like your version of Keynote is too old. Are you able to update it to a newer version? Check the app store to see if there is an update.
